'She's 36?' Kim Yuna's New Dior Shoot Has Fans in Two Countries Speechless
Kim Yuna posted 14 photos from a Dior appearance at Shinsegae Department Store in Seoul, and the reaction in both Korea and Japan was immediate. Five years into marriage and well into her 30s, the Olympic gold medalist is going viral for her visuals all over again.

Kim Yuna posted 14 photos to her Instagram on August 1st, and within hours fans across Korea and Japan were questioning the basic concept of aging.
The shoot took place at Shinsegae Department Store's main branch in Jung-gu, Seoul, where Yuna, a brand ambassador for Dior, appeared in the label's clothing and carried one of its bags. The images moved fast.
Korean fans landed on the expected range of reactions: "too beautiful," "always classic," "this is what a goddess looks like." A few went further, noting that she had grown "more mature and more beautiful" since her competitive days. The phrase "human luxury brand" showed up more than once, which is either the highest compliment Korean fan culture offers or a sign that Dior's positioning is really working.
Japan picked it up too. Sports Hochi, a Japanese sports newspaper, ran a piece on July 28th calling her latest appearance "a major sensation" and describing her as projecting "an atmosphere on par with a professional model, distinct from her competitive-era image." Japanese fans echoed the Korean sentiment, with reactions landing on "overwhelming beauty" and a genuine-sounding "what is even happening."
For anyone who needs the context: Kim Yuna is one of the most celebrated athletes in Korean sports history. She won the country's first-ever Olympic figure skating gold at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games, followed that with a silver at Sochi in 2014, and took two World Championship titles along the way. At the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, the first Winter Games held in Korea, she lit the cauldron as the final torchbearer, a moment that felt less like ceremony and more like a full-circle statement.
She retired from competition after Sochi and has built a second public life as a brand ambassador and occasional media presence. In 2022 she married classical singer Ko Woo-rim; this year marks their fifth anniversary.
At 36, five years married, and long removed from competitive ice, she is apparently still capable of generating the kind of cross-border attention most active performers would envy.
