The new drama, airing on tvN on August 3, is inspired by the popular webtoon Our Oppa is an Idol. It revolves around a rookie employee who joins a company to meet her favorite idol, only to find herself ensnared in an unexpected love triangle. Kim plays Nam Da-reum, a character who joins a fashion platform company where her idol, Lee Chan, is a director.

In her preparation for the role, Kim drew from her school days as a K-pop fan. She reminisced about lunchtime dance-offs and singing idol songs with friends, stating, "Those memories helped me connect with Nam Da-reum’s character. I wanted to show a sweet charm, and I hope everyone looks forward to it."

Joining Kim are actors Kang Hoon and Cha Woo-min, who add layers to the romantic triangle. Kang plays the meticulous CEO Kang Ha-gi, while Cha embodies Lee Chan, the idol who complicates Nam Da-reum’s life. The characters’ dynamic promises to deliver moments of humor and tension.

Director Park Ji-hyun emphasized the unique blend of realism and fantasy within the workplace setting, noting how the driving force of 'fan passion' influences the narrative. "This is still an office romance, but it includes a mix of fan culture, creating something fresh. We aimed for a balance between realistic office life and fantasy elements to keep viewers engaged."

Kim and her co-stars share a spirited camaraderie, which they believe will resonate on-screen. "We became each other’s favorites during filming," Kim quipped.

As My Favorite Employee prepares to premiere, it promises to explore the excitement of first love intertwined with the thrills of fandom, likely reflecting the real-life experiences of many K-pop enthusiasts. This charming new series aims to make viewers laugh, something director Park is confident about, assuring fans that it will provide a refreshing escape during the summer heat.
