Kim Sook's YouTube Story About a Two-Faced Celebrity Has Sparked a Guessing Game Online
Comedian Kim Sook shared an anecdote on YouTube about a famous celebrity she says was genuinely mean-spirited, only to appear kinder once their popularity faded. She named no one, but the clip set off a wave of online speculation that has since swept up at least one prominent MC with no apparent connection to the story.

On a recent episode of the YouTube show Bimil Bojang (episode 580, aired on the Bibo TV channel), comedian and TV personality Kim Sook shared a candid story about a top celebrity she says she encountered earlier in her career. The anecdote was casual and unscripted, but it has since taken on a life of its own online.

Speaking during a phone consultation with psychiatrist Lee Gwang-min, Kim Sook described a famous entertainer whose behavior she found genuinely unkind. She recalled thinking at the time that this person's core character was simply bad, and she kept her distance. When the celebrity's popularity later declined, people around them began saying the person had changed for the better. Kim Sook said she didn't buy it. Her instinct proved correct, she felt, when the same celebrity regained their fame and reverted to the same behavior. Former skeptics, she said, came back to tell her she had been right all along.

Lee Gwang-min responded with the Korean saying that people cannot be fundamentally changed, which prompted Kim Sook to joke that a doctor probably shouldn't be saying such a thing.

What made the clip circulate was not so much what Kim Sook said as what she didn't say. She gave no name, no gender, no clear time period. That absence of detail created space for speculation, and within days of the video going public, online communities had collectively settled on a well-known MC as the supposed subject. There is no verifiable basis for that identification.

Netizens familiar with that MC pushed back quickly. Several pointed out that the person in question has been close to Kim Sook for years, that their popularity has not meaningfully declined at any point, and that they have no known history of the kind of behavior being described. Those counterarguments have not stopped the rumors from spreading.

What's notable about how this unfolded is fairly common in Korean entertainment circles: an anonymous anecdote, told without malicious intent in a casual setting, becomes the starting point for a crowdsourced investigation. With no specific clue to anchor the search, speculation tends to expand rather than narrow, and different communities arrive at different names. Some netizens have gone further, cross-referencing Kim Sook's professional history and personal connections to suggest several other candidates, none supported by any direct evidence.
Kim Sook has not clarified who she was referring to, and there is no indication she intends to. Without that, any identification remains guesswork, and the risk of an unrelated person's reputation being damaged in the process is real.
