Lee Dong-wuk and Jeon So-nee's Steamy Encounter Upends Four Lives in Netflix's New Romance Thriller

Netflix's original series Love Affair has officially begun production with a powerhouse cast: Lee Dong-wuk, Jeon So-nee, Jung Yoo-mi, and Lee Jong-won. The project brings together acclaimed screenwriter Ha Su-jin and director Mo Wan-il, known for their meticulous character work and emotional depth.

The story unfolds when Jihun (Lee Dong-wuk) and Hugyeong (Jeon So-nee) meet by chance in an unfamiliar travel destination and spend an enchanting day together. But when they return to Korea, the spell doesn't break, despite knowing their connection is forbidden, both feel an irresistible pull toward each other. Their once-stable lives begin to fracture.

A Director Known for Emotional Precision

Mo Wan-il, the series' director, brings considerable pedigree to the project. He's previously helmed Netflix's Into the Forest and the hit drama The World of the Married, earning widespread praise for his unflinching exploration of complex emotional landscapes. His visual style is distinctly atmospheric and his ability to sustain narrative tension, especially in relationship dramas, is well-documented. For Love Affair, he's expected to render the subtle fractures between characters and the turbulent emotional currents with particular density and nuance.

Screenwriter Ha Su-jin, known for dramas like The Grand Wedding Trick and Big Real Estate, brings her own strengths: realistic emotional portrayal and dialogue that resonates deeply with audiences. She will weave together the intricate relational dynamics at the heart of Love Affair into a layered, emotionally intelligent narrative.

The Cast

Lee Dong-wuk takes on the role of Jihun. A veteran of multiple genres, from Good Boy to Goblin, Others Are Hell, and the Tale of the Nine-Tailed franchise, Lee brings both emotional depth and a commanding screen presence. Here, he'll explore the fracture between rational judgment and desire through a character caught between conflicting impulses.

Jeon So-nee plays Hugyeong, the mysterious woman who penetrates Jihun's defenses and anchors the story's emotional core. Her previous work in Netflix's Parasyte: The Grey, Melo Movie, and You Killed It showcases her ability to deliver nuanced, layered performances. As Hugyeong, she'll embody an enigmatic presence that unsettles everyone around her.

Jung Yoo-mi takes on Sunhee, Jihun's wife. Her track record, from the Netflix series School Nurse Ahn Eun-young to dramas like Love Is a One-Log Bridge, Live, and Finding Love, plus films including Sleep, 82-Year-Old Kim Ji-young, and Train to Busan, establishes her as a master of authentic emotional expression. Sunhee will undergo a devastating reckoning as the truth emerges, and Jung's signature attention to detail will shape this character's complex internal journey.

Rounding out the cast is Lee Jong-won as Daehee, Sunhee's younger brother. A rising star known for dramas like Drunk Romance, Flower of the Night, and Gold Spoon, Lee brings unexpected energy and charm to a character who becomes entangled in relationships he never anticipated, adding another dimension of tension to the narrative.

Love Affair is a four-character story born from one unforgettable night abroad, a single evening that upends the lives of two couples forever.
