OURBIRTHDAY Arrives: JYP Breaks a 4-Year Girl Group Drought With a 7-Member Crew
JYP Entertainment's first new girl group in four years, OURBIRTHDAY, officially debuted on the 19th with their single 'Our Birthday.' The seven-member group, launched under JYP subsidiary INIT Entertainment, follows the lineage of Wonder Girls, Miss A, TWICE, ITZY, and NMIXX.

OURBIRTHDAY dropped their debut single Our Birthday at 6 p.m. on the 19th, officially entering the industry as JYP Entertainment's first new girl group since NMIXX launched in early 2022. Four years is a long gap for an agency whose girl group track record includes Wonder Girls, Miss A, TWICE, ITZY, and NMIXX, and the new group arrives under JYP's subsidiary, INIT Entertainment, which is presenting its first girl group act.

The group consists of seven members: Cho Hyejin, Shin Hyewon, Kuk Chorok, Yu, Baby, Archiraya, and Kirara. The roster is stacked with competition show experience. Leader Cho Hyejin won KBS 2TV's The Ddanddara and previously appeared on Mnet's Street Dance Girls Fighter 2. Shin Hyewon came through JTBC's R U Next?, while Yu placed third on The Ddanddara and also competed on SBS's Universe Ticket. Three members (Cho Hyejin, Baby, and Archiraya) were revealed during a pre-debut phase, with the full seven-member lineup now active together for the first time.

The debut single contains four tracks, with the lead track 'SQUEEZY' anchoring the release. It is a funk-based dance track built around the idea of squeezing out stress like a toy, driven by an addictive beat. The group is positioning itself around a signature genre they call 'WHIP-HOP': a blend of hip-hop performance energy and the individual personalities of all seven members.

The team name carries an intentional message. 'OURBIRTHDAY' is meant to capture the feeling of living every day as freely and vividly as a birthday, redefining ordinary moments on their own terms.
At the debut showcase held at Blue Square in Yongsan, Seoul, the members performed 'SQUEEZY' and the B-side 'HUNGRY,' showing the technically demanding choreography that will be central to the group's identity. Cho Hyejin addressed the weight of the moment directly: 'I know how high expectations are for JYP girl group performances and for the team, so we gritted our teeth and prepared hard together. It means a lot to be promoting as a full group of seven, and we will show you a performance that is entirely ours.'
Member Archiraya acknowledged the pressure more plainly: 'It would be a lie to say there was no pressure, being the JYP girl group after four years. But I plan to use that as fuel to show even better performance and our own charm.'

The group also passed along a piece of advice from JYP founder and head producer Park Jinyoung. Yu relayed it at the showcase: 'Park PD told us the most important thing is to get along and treat each other well. We are working on respecting and considering each other even when we disagree, so we can promote together for a long time.'
When asked about role models or labels they want attached to the group, the members were consistent in their answer: none. Kuk Chorok put it plainly: 'Our goal is to show OURBIRTHDAY's own personality and performance. We don't want any other label. We want to be remembered as OURBIRTHDAY itself.' Their stated short-term target is more conventional but tells you something about where they're setting the bar: a rookie award by year's end.
The group followed the single release with a global debut show titled OURBIRTHDAY PARTY, broadcast on Mnet and the M2 YouTube channel later the same evening. A debut single from a JYP-affiliated group lands with distribution muscle and industry attention built in; the question now is whether 'SQUEEZY' finds traction outside the fandom on digital charts in the first two weeks, which is the early indicator that will separate a promising start from a breakout one.
