Wheelchair YouTuber Park Wi Loses 30,000 Subscribers After CCTV Video Backlash

YouTuber Park Wi, who uses a wheelchair and runs the channel Wiraacle, posted CCTV footage of a fall he suffered while exiting a KTX train on the 14th, only to delete it days later after critics pointed out the civil service worker shown in the clip had already apologized on the spot. The fallout has since cost him roughly 30,000 subscribers, several scheduled speaking engagements, and has drawn scrutiny of his role as a Seoul City honorary ambassador.

Park Wi, the disability advocate and YouTuber behind the channel Wiraacle, published CCTV footage of a fall he sustained while disembarking a KTX train on the 14th, framing it as a call for better accessibility infrastructure. The clip went up on the 21st, drew an immediate backlash, and was deleted within days. What made the reaction sharp was a detail visible in the footage itself: the civil service worker whose foot caught his wheelchair's wheel had already apologized to Park at the scene.

The incident happened as Park was leaving the train after a speaking engagement. A mobile ramp attendant's foot became caught under the wheelchair wheel, causing Park to fall. His wife, former Secret member Song Ji-eun, accompanied him to hospital afterward, where she sat quietly through the doctor's examination and visibly reacted when the test results came back.

What the CCTV clip showed

When Park posted the footage under the title "Why I'm releasing the CCTV," he described his intent as raising awareness about the travel conditions disabled people face and preventing similar accidents. The problem, as critics quickly noted, was that the clip captured not just the fall but the worker's on-site apology as well. Publishing that sequence to a channel with around one million subscribers was widely read as disproportionate, targeting a low-level public servant for a mistake that had already been acknowledged and addressed in person.

Park took the video down and issued a written apology. "The worker did their best to help me at the scene and apologized sincerely," he wrote. "I failed to consider their position. I only saw the mistake negatively, when it happened in the course of trying to assist me. My thinking was shallow and my approach was immature. I sincerely apologize to everyone who was working there that day, and to my viewers."

Staff reactions and legal questions

A separate wrinkle emerged from reports that Park had used KTX approximately 300 times over the years, routinely receiving assistance from station staff without incident. People familiar with those interactions expressed sympathy for Park but said staff were saddened that, after so many uneventful trips, this one video was what ended up online.

Legal commentary has circulated alongside the criticism. A practicing attorney who discussed the case publicly noted that while a party directly involved in an incident generally has the right to request and view related CCTV footage, separate questions arise once that footage is published: whether third parties shown in it can be identified, and whether the footage is being used for a materially different purpose than the one originally stated when access was requested. No legal determination has been made, and it remains unclear whether Park's publication of the footage constituted any violation.

The wider fallout

The consequences have accumulated steadily. Wiraacle's subscriber count, which had cleared one million, dropped to roughly 970,000 by the 26th. Several scheduled lectures and a talk concert were cancelled. Park and Song Ji-eun both restricted comments on their social media accounts as criticism continued.

A citizen complaint was also filed through Korea's public petition platform, asking Seoul City to assess whether Park can still appropriately fulfill his duties as a city honorary ambassador. Seoul City has not announced any decision, and the complainant reported receiving only an acknowledgment that the matter is under review.

Amid the controversy, a 2024 fortune-reading video resurfaced in which an astrologer analyzed the couple's compatibility based on their birth charts. The reading, done after Park and Song Ji-eun registered their marriage in September 2024 and held a ceremony in October of that year, described Song as patient and devoted, and Park as quick-tempered and self-centered. It is the kind of content that circulates again when a public figure is under pressure, functioning more as social commentary than as any meaningful analysis.

What the episode has exposed, beyond the specific dispute, is the tension that can arise when a disability creator with a large platform documents an accessibility failure that involves an identifiable individual. The intent to advocate and the effect of public shaming are not always easy to separate, and Park's own apology acknowledged he had not thought carefully enough about where that line was.
