She Almost Debuted in aespa. Then a Premarital Pregnancy and a Conservative In-Law Family Kept Her Off Stage for 13 Years.

Former Red Socks member No Jeong-myeong dropped a lot on a YouTube channel this week: she was nearly in aespa, she got pregnant before marriage at 25, and her ex-husband's conservative family essentially locked her out of public life for over a decade. The appearance came on the 9th via the channel 닭터신, under the title "Red Socks' No Jeong-myeong, I Actually Almost Debuted in aespa."

The aespa near-miss is the headline grab, but the meat of the conversation was the 13-year gap in her career after she left the industry post-marriage. "It wasn't a short break," she said. "I was out for 13 years. Raising a child, consumed by parenting."

The marriage that changed everything

She married at 25, right after graduating university, and described the whole situation as feeling like "an identity reset." The timing was not planned. No Jeong-myeong said she discovered she was pregnant at six months along, by which point a wedding was logistically off the table, so she gave birth first and married three months later. She called herself probably the first Korean celebrity to do it in that order at that time, noting it was not something that happened in the industry back then.

Her ex-husband was a customer she met at a hair and makeup shop during her Red Socks days, a male client of the salon owner. The wealth, she was upfront about, came from his father. "He was a gold spoon," she said, using the Korean term for someone born into generational money. She acknowledged that financial stability was part of the attraction: "When you're eating out anyway, you want premium beef. Honestly, not many guys our age could afford that."

She was quick to add it wasn't purely transactional. "It might seem materialistic, but his character was genuinely good. I'm a cautious person. When I like someone I move fast, but I think a lot first."

Thirteen years behind closed doors

The ex-husband's family was conservative and, by her account, actively opposed to her having any public life. That meant no entertainment industry contacts, no social activity outside the home, significant restrictions on even seeing friends. "I couldn't go out and meet friends, so I'd invite them to my house instead," she said.

Her ex-husband was also young and unprepared, she reflected. He had hidden the pregnancy from his family for six months, apparently out of fear of his father and awareness that he was in no financial position to suddenly be responsible for a wife and child. "At the time I resented him for it," she said. "But looking back, he must have been under enormous pressure too."

No Jeong-myeong was clear that quitting was never the plan. When host Shin Jeong-hwan asked if she had ever thought about walking away from music, she said flatly: "No. My dreams were big." The 13 years happened around her, not because of a decision she made.
