BABYMONSTER Hits 750K Copies in 8 Days, A Million-Seller Is Coming

BABYMONSTER's third mini album 'CHOOM' has sold approximately 750,000 copies in just eight days, according to YG Entertainment. The figure already surpasses the group's previous album's entire first-month total, and a million-seller milestone is looking increasingly likely.

Eight days. That's how long it took BABYMONSTER to blow past the full first-month sales of their previous album.

YG Entertainment confirmed on May 13 that the group's third mini album CHOOM had moved roughly 750,000 copies by their internal count, outpacing WE GO UP, the second mini album, which logged 552,837 first-week copies and capped out at around 650,000 after a full month. CHOOM cleared that in just over a week.

YG says demand came in above projections across the major markets, North America, Japan, and China all reported stronger-than-expected album sales. The group's global footprint is apparently wider now than even their label anticipated.

The numbers suggest YG's release strategy is working. Three separate music videos for a single album is aggressive by any standard, and a new single is already queued up for June. Whether that pace is sustainable is a separate conversation, but right now the output is landing.

CHOOM has also been making noise on the charts. It topped iTunes album charts in 19 regions and hit number one on the Worldwide Albums chart. The title track's music video entered YouTube's most-viewed videos within 24 hours of its release.

What happens next will push the final number higher. BABYMONSTER is set to kick off their second world tour in Seoul in June, spanning 5 continents and currently confirmed for 18 cities across 26 shows. The tour hits six cities in Japan (Kobe, Fukuoka, Yokohama, Chiba, Nagoya, Osaka), eight cities across Asia (Manila, Macau, Jakarta, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Singapore, Hong Kong), and three cities in Oceania (Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney).

Million-seller status isn't confirmed yet, but at this trajectory, it would take a significant slowdown to stop it.
