Ji Ye-eun's Boyfriend Bata Posted a Birthday Tribute and It Quietly Confirmed Her Thyroid Cancer Surgery

Dancer Bata posted a birthday tribute to girlfriend Ji Ye-eun on the 26th, and one photo in the carousel quietly said more than the rest: Ji Ye-eun in a hospital gown, Bata visiting her bedside.

The post, captioned "Happy birthday my 강아디," collected the kind of couple content fans had been hoping for, the two posing in stuffed-animal hats at an amusement park gift shop, Bata's arm around her shoulder on a shopping mall escalator, a trip that appears to be Japan, a beachside walk where they're looking at each other rather than the water. Ji Ye-eun replied in the comments with hearts and emoji. Cute, all of it. But the hospital photo is what landed.

강아디 is their private nickname for each other, a soft variation of 강아지 (puppy). Ji Ye-eun had mentioned on the web variety show Pingyego that they call each other that. The detail is minor, but it's the kind of thing that makes a fan post hit differently from a PR photo.

The couple are both 1994-born and met originally through church. When dating rumors surfaced in April, Ji Ye-eun's agency CP Entertainment confirmed the relationship with a brief statement: "The two, who have been colleagues, are seeing each other with good feelings. We ask for your warm support."

The hospital image circles back to something Ji Ye-eun addressed more directly in May, on the Netflix variety show Yoo Jae-suk Camp. She disclosed there that she had undergone thyroid cancer surgery, describing how grateful she felt given that the cancer had spread more than the minimum threshold doctors flag. She had paused activities in September of last year citing health reasons, returning to SBS's Running Man about three weeks later. At the time, her agency said only that her medical information was private and couldn't be confirmed.

CP Entertainment has not commented on the birthday post. The hospital photo was already in the public gallery; Ji Ye-eun standing in a gown, Bata next to her, both looking like they'd rather be anywhere else but making it work. For fans who followed the health timeline, it fills in a gap that the agency statements never did.
