After 10 Years and a World Tour, BLACKPINK Is Splitting Up Again: Into Solo Careers

Three of BLACKPINK's four members have solo releases hitting within two months of each other, and the timing is suspicious only if you forgot how this group operates.

Jennie went first. Her digital EP Fallen Angel dropped Friday, roughly a year and five months after her debut LP Ruby. It's a three-track project: the title track, "Heaven," and "Less Than a Lover," the last of which landed in advance on July 24.

What Jennie's new EP sounds like

"Less Than a Lover" is the one worth paying attention to. It's alternative pop built on lo-fi guitar and vintage electric keyboard, with Jennie's vocals kept deliberately understated. She co-wrote and co-composed the track, and the result lands further from the glossy pop-rap of her earlier solo work. The song captures the tension of a connection that's more than friendship but not quite romance. It topped iTunes Top Songs charts in 27 regions after release.

Jisoo is up next. Her new single "Click" arrives September 4, her first solo release since last year's EP Amortage and technically her first LP. She's got numbers behind her name: Amortage hit No. 1 on iTunes Top Albums in 45 regions, its lead single "Earthquake" topped Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart, and her October 2025 collab with Zayn, "Eyes Closed," debuted at No. 72 on the Billboard Hot 100. The bar is set.

Lisa's album is the bigger event

Lisa is running a two-step rollout. The pre-release single "SaWaDiKa" drops September 3, drawing from the Thai greeting sawasdee ka, and the full six-track album Press Play follows October 23. YG is no longer in the picture for Lisa; she's been operating under her own label, Lloud. The album is framed around her Thai identity and her experience as a global performer, which is a more personal angle than Alter Ego took on the surface.

That previous album, released in March 2025, was the benchmark: 23.4 million first-day streams on Spotify, No. 1 on Billboard's Top Album Sales chart, No. 7 on the Billboard 200. Press Play lands about a year and eight months later, which is fast but not unusual for Lisa's pace.

Rosé is the holdout

The only member without a 2026 announcement is Rosé. Her LP Rosie came out in 2024, and "APT.," her collab with Bruno Mars, peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and scored three Grammy nominations including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. She has less urgency to move quickly, and apparently she isn't.

All of this comes after BLACKPINK wrapped the Deadline world tour and dropped their third EP of the same name in February, their first group album in nearly four years. The group also marked its 10th anniversary on August 8, though that milestone landed with some controversy over what fans felt was a lack of meaningful group celebration. With the anniversary box checked, the individual runway is clear.

The solo cycle isn't new for BLACKPINK. It mirrors the run that began in 2024 with Lisa's "Rockstar" and moved through Jennie's "Mantra," Rosé's "APT.," and Jisoo's "Earthquake." What's different this time is the speed. Three members in two months is a compressed timeline, and whoever is coordinating the release calendar at Odd Atelier, Blissoo, and Lloud clearly decided not to space things out.
