BTS Lights Up New York with 'The City' Cultural Festival
BTS has concluded their immersive fan event, 'BTS The City Arirang - New York,' showcasing their music across iconic New York landmarks. The cultural project engaged fans and locals alike, transforming the city into a vibrant celebration of music and community.

BTS's recent offline fan event, 'BTS The City Arirang - New York,' illuminated some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, turning New York into a vibrant celebration of culture and music. Held from August 3 to 7, the festival coincided with their concert at MetLife Stadium and spanned prominent sites like Grand Central Terminal, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, and the Korean Cultural Center of New York.

At Rockefeller Center's 'Top of the Rock,' the venue was adorned with the theme of 'The City Arirang,' providing a stunning backdrop where BTS's music resonated in the air. This stunning visual setting was enhanced by guerrilla performances from local artists, who skillfully reinterpreted BTS tracks with live violin and vocal arrangements, transforming Manhattan into a stage of cultural expression.
The excitement didn't stop there. Times Square saw an energetic dance performance featuring local dance crews and bustling crowds of both citizens and tourists. At Grand Central Terminal, a hub frequented by around 750,000 daily commuters, attendees had the chance to witness BTS's stage outfits and participate in creating custom T-shirts, further enhancing the sense of community around the event.
This event reawakened the historical essence of Grand Central, where BTS previously performed their title track "ON" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon back in February 2020. After 6 years, it offered an interactive space for fans and residents alike, bridging the gap between culture and music in the heart of the city.
Additionally, 'The Big Bus Tours' ran through vital areas, circling through locations like Koreatown and showcasing the festival’s vibrant spirit. The Korean Cultural Center hosted various activities including a DIY light stick workshop and a cultural theater experience, allowing fans to immerse themselves fully in the BTS fandom.
The project successfully highlighted the potential of a participatory content model that connects urban landmarks and cultural infrastructures, celebrated by Big Hit Music. This immersive event not only provided entertainment but also rekindled interest in the rich cultural tapestry of the city, creating lasting memories for attendees.
BTS continues to maintain a strong presence on global music charts, with their recent album 'ARIRANG' climbing to 15th on the Billboard 200, marking 19 weeks on the list. Tracks like 'SWIM' and 'NORMAL' also found positions in the Hot 100, underscoring BTS's enduring impact in the music industry and among their dedicated fanbase.
