An Bo-hyun and Jung Eun-chae Trap Yoo Seung-ho Into a Live Confession to Close Chaebol X Detective 2

Chaebol X Detective 2 closed its 14-episode run on September 19 with a nationwide rating of 11.8% (Nielsen Korea), the highest figure either season has posted. The finale jumped 2.4 percentage points from episode 13's previous series best of 9.4%, crossing into double digits for the first time and landing first in its timeslot among all Saturday mini-series.

Peak ratings hit 14.1% at the episode's most tense stretch, while the key 20-to-49 demographic reached a peak of 4.5% and an episode average of 3.5%, topping every Saturday broadcast that night.

The trap that made it work

The finale's centrepiece was a layered sting operation built around one of the drama's most satisfying reveals: both Jin I-su (An Bo-hyun) and Squad Leader Joo Hye-ra (Jung Eun-chae) had anticipated that Yoo Seong-won (Yoo Seung-ho) would draw a weapon, so they were already wearing bulletproof vests when they walked into his exhibition hall.

The setup started earlier in the episode, with Hye-ra visiting Jeong Tae-seon to warn her that her son would come for her next. When Tae-seon refused to cooperate, Hye-ra left her with a cold exit line and then turned the threat into leverage, borrowing Tae-seon's clothes and car to draw Seong-won to the exhibition hall herself. It's the kind of plotting that makes the final hour feel earned rather than rushed.

At the exhibition, Hye-ra confronted Seong-won directly while I-su smashed his displayed sculptures one by one. The deliberate provocation worked: Seong-won, furious that his art was being destroyed by someone he believed couldn't understand it, launched into a detailed account of each of his crimes. He also shot Hye-ra, and in a moment of theatrical cruelty that shocked even by the show's standards, arranged her unconscious body among his exhibits as though she were another piece. What Seong-won didn't know was that Hye-ra's jacket was fitted with a miniature camera broadcasting the confession live to domestic and international press gathered outside.

With the on-camera admission secured, Hye-ra snapped the handcuffs on him herself. Park Jun-young and Choi Gyeong-jin, meanwhile, found three bodies buried in Seong-won's garden, sealing the physical evidence case. His mother Jeong Tae-seon and co-conspirator Gwon Tae-gyun were implicated in the fallout.

Payoff and what comes next

The episode ended on a warm note: a joint funeral for the victims, a commendation ceremony for Violent Crimes Unit 1, and a lavish team vacation bankrolled by Jin I-su. His resignation had already been rejected, so he returned to the unit for the final scene.

The breather didn't last long. A new antagonist, played by Kim Ji-hoon, appeared in the final minutes with Squad 1 clearly in his sights, a thread that reads unmistakably as a Season 3 setup. The show gives no further detail on the character, but the framing suggests the writers and network are leaving the door open.
