One theqoo post titled "Bird-Jongsuk who is doing his best with his acting" has fans laughing: the bird in The Remarried Empress looks, to many viewers, exactly like Lee Jongsuk. The thread arrived as Disney+ released stills for episodes 1 to 4 of the fantasy romance, which begins streaming on the 4th.

Lee plays Heinrey, the prince of the Western Kingdom, who kneels before Empress Navier (Shin Min-a) and offers her a blue rose in one of the newly released stills. The image sets the show's central contrast: Emperor Sovieshu (Joo Ji-hoon) holds Navier's hand but cannot take his eyes off Rastha (Lee Se-young), a runaway slave, while Heinrey's attention stays fixed on the empress alone.

The love triangle behind the stills

The series follows Navier, the flawless empress of the Eastern Empire. When Sovieshu, smitten with Rastha, tells her he wants a divorce, she agrees on one condition: that he approve her remarriage to Heinrey. The stills also show a warmer past between Navier and Sovieshu, which makes the cold stares they later exchange more pointed. The emperor, notably, breaks his promise not to take a consort.

Disney+ describes the four main characters as a web of love, betrayal and desire. Navier keeps her composure even as she is hurt, Rastha enjoys a happiness she did not expect, and Heinrey pursues the empress without hesitation. Fans will have to watch to see which choice Navier makes to change her fate.

How to watch

The first four episodes arrive on the 4th. After that, two episodes drop every Wednesday, for ten episodes in total.

The bird is unbelievably cute, and Heinrey nails the sly prince vibe, which is heart-fluttering. People on drama forums and Twitter seem to be reacting very positively to Lee Jongsuk's performance too. I really hope more Korean fantasy romances get made, because they're so damn fun.
