Mnet's Girls Planet 2027 Is Already Breaking Records Before It Even Airs

Girls Planet 2027 has crossed 40,000 applicants, Mnet confirmed on August 5, setting a new series record across the entire Planet franchise. Applications opened online in May, and the numbers have climbed steadily enough that the show is now running outdoor advertising in Times Square, New York, as part of a direct push into the North American market.

The geographic breakdown is the early indicator worth watching: roughly one-third of all applicants have come from the Americas. For a Korean cable network survival show that has not yet aired a single episode, that proportion of international interest is a concrete signal, not just marketing momentum. No previous season of the Girls Planet or Boys Planet series reached this share of applicants from outside Asia at the pre-production stage.

Mnet is following that interest with in-person auditions. From August 14 to 16 (local time), the show will hold a Fast Track Audition at KCON LA 2026, where participants are evaluated on the spot and notified of results immediately. The format collapses the usual waiting period and raises the stakes for anyone showing up: you walk in a hopeful and walk out knowing.

The Times Square billboard and the KCON LA audition slot together suggest the agency is treating North America as a core recruitment market rather than a supplementary one. One-third of 40,000 is roughly 13,000 applicants from the Americas alone, and audition capacity at a convention floor is finite, so the Fast Track event is as much a visibility play as a genuine talent funnel.
