Jang Dong-yoon Is Getting Married in October to Actor Kim Seung-yoon
Actor Jang Dong-yoon, 34, announced on the 25th that he will marry fellow actor Kim Seung-yoon, 29, in October. The couple, who kept their relationship entirely private, first connected when Jang directed Kim in a short film and later developed a romantic relationship. Their ceremony will be held as a small family-only service.

Actor Jang Dong-yoon, 34, announced on the 25th that he will marry actor Kim Seung-yoon, 29, in October, sharing the news through a handwritten letter posted to his social media account. The announcement was a surprise to most observers: the two had kept their relationship so private that even people around them were reportedly unaware they were a couple.

In the letter, Jang wrote that over a long period together, the two came to understand each other's many sides and grew to care for one another deeply. "We've decided to be each other's closest support," he added, "and to live together in a way that is fun and happy." He closed by asking fans to watch over them with warm feelings despite the suddenness of the news, and pledged to keep growing both as an actor and as a person.

The wedding ceremony will be small and private, limited to immediate family from both sides, held in the form of a Christian service.

From set to relationship
The two actors first connected through work. Kim Seung-yoon appeared as the lead in two films that Jang directed: the 2023 short Be My Ears (내 귀가 되어줘), which marked Jang's directorial debut, and Nuruk (누룩), his first feature, released earlier this year in April. Their working relationship as director and performer appears to have been the starting point for something longer.
The shared professional background runs deeper than those two films. Both actors made their names in the 2019 KBS2 period romantic comedy Joseon Rom-Com: Nokdu Flower, where Jang played a man disguised as a woman, a role that drew considerable attention at the time, and Kim made her acting debut in the same production.

Who is Kim Seung-yoon
Born in 1997 and a graduate of Konkuk University's film and visual arts program, Kim Seung-yoon has built her career primarily in the arthouse and independent film space. She has appeared in three films by director Hong Sang-soo: In Water (2023), Our Day (2023), and A Traveler's Needs (2024). On television, she appeared in the KBS2 weekend drama Eagle Five Brothers last year, playing a bright and sharp-tongued character who left an impression on viewers. Her most recent credits include the short-form drama Let's Get Married 1+2.
The choice to build a filmography largely through independent and art-house projects, including repeated collaborations with Hong Sang-soo, one of Korean cinema's most internationally recognized auteurs, reflects a deliberate approach to craft that mirrors Jang's own expanding ambitions behind the camera.

Jang Dong-yoon's path to here
Jang's own story has an unusual starting point. Before his acting career began, he made the news in 2015 when, as a Hanyang University student, he physically detained a convenience store robber in Seoul's Gwanak district, earning him the nickname "the handsome student who caught a robber." He made his formal acting debut the following year in the web drama Female Employees of a Game Company.
Since then he has accumulated credits across both drama and film, with notable roles in Oasis, Flowers of the Prison (모래에도 꽃이 핀다), Run Boy Run, and The Wolf (늑대사냥), among others. He also appeared in the acclaimed Netflix drama Psychiatric Ward Also Has a Morning (정신병동에도 아침이 와요). Earlier in 2026, he also completed his long-delayed degree at Hanyang University, 15 years after enrolling.

Jang had spoken about marriage in prior interviews, saying he considered it "life's most important assignment" and that he hoped to marry before turning forty. He is 34. His next project as an actor is a Disney+ original series, Miracles of the Namiya General Store, set for release next year.
