Song Kang and Kim So-hyun Are Reuniting 5 Years After Love Alarm in New MBC Drama White Scandal

Five years after Love Alarm gave them one of K-drama's most talked-about slow-burn pairings, Song Kang and Kim So-hyun are heading back to the small screen together. MBC announced on the 25th that both actors will lead White Scandal, the network's upcoming Friday-Saturday drama.

The story comes from a webtoon of the same name and centers on a fake-dating premise with real stakes on both sides. Song Kang plays Dan Yi-hyuk, a third-generation chaebol heir who has spent his entire life performing the version of himself his grandfather demands, while also building a career as a top actor. Kim So-hyun takes on Ji Eun-seol, a former child star whose promising career was derailed by a single incident, leaving her to work quietly as a manager while holding onto her dream of acting. When the two agree to stage a relationship to fool the public, they quickly find themselves tangled in secrets that have been buried for years, including a past connection between them that neither expected to revisit.

The additional detail that Dan Yi-hyuk was born as an illegitimate heir to the chaebol family adds a layer of performance and concealment to his character that runs deeper than just the fake-dating setup. Both leads are, in their own ways, playing roles they didn't choose, which gives the central dynamic some interesting friction beyond the usual will-they-won't-they rhythm.
