Jeon Hyunmu's friends push back on Na Honja Sanda staging claims with real footage
MBC's Na Honja Sanda is facing allegations that Jeon Hyunmu's supposedly spontaneous Kazakhstan trip was pre-arranged, following its broadcast on the 14th and 21st. Now two of the host's longtime friends have gone public with footage and anecdotes meant to show that impulsive, unplanned travel is simply how he operates.

MBC's reality lifestyle show Na Honja Sanda has been caught in a staging controversy since it aired Jeon Hyunmu's 29-hour "spontaneous" trip to Almaty, Kazakhstan on the 14th and 21st. The premise, that Jeon walked into an airport with no destination in mind and bought the first available ticket, struck some viewers as implausible once the details were examined.

The scrutiny focused on a few specific points: rental car and accommodation bookings appeared to come together unusually smoothly, the production crew somehow had flights arranged for an ostensibly unplanned shoot, and viewers noted that renting a car in Kazakhstan typically requires a notarized translation of one's license, a step that did not appear in the broadcast. A further complication arrived when text on the Almaty city tourism authority's official government website described the Na Honja Sanda shoot as having received support from local tourism officials.

The production team issued a statement on the 25th denying the allegations. They said Jeon presented his international driving permit and passport at the local rental counter, exactly as shown on air, and that no filming support or sponsorship of any kind was received. They also acknowledged, however, that they had confirmed only after broadcast, by contacting the Korean Embassy in Kazakhstan, that a separate notarization step was in fact required. That admission added a wrinkle to the defense.

Friends step in with their own accounts
Two people close to Jeon have since gone public, independently, to say the spontaneous travel concept reflects how he actually behaves.

A friend identified only as A posted videos on the 25th and again on the 26th, describing them as "the real footage that inspired the Kazakhstan episode." The clips show Jeon and the friend arriving at an airport with no destination chosen, approaching airline counters to ask what seats were available that day, failing to find anything suitable at the desks, then sitting down for a meal at the airport before eventually booking through a ticketing app. In one follow-up post, A described the whole process including a moment where only a single seat was available, meaning the two had to board separate flights and meet at the destination.

A's account is specific enough to be worth noting: the desk approach failed, the app produced one result, and the trip still happened. Jeon liked both posts. Actress Baek Jinhee, who appears to know the group well, commented on one of them: "Familiar, right, the travel style of these guys."

Director Shim Hyungjun went further with a named, detailed account. He described a trip with Jeon to Japan's Fukuoka with no accommodation booked in advance. The two drove a rental car to Yufuin, arrived to find every hotel fully booked, and came close to sleeping on the street. "He didn't panic, didn't look scared," Shim said. "That's just how his travel has always been." Shim also recalled a domestic trip with Jeon to Namhae that detoured through Jindo and ended with an unplanned encounter with the father of singer Song Gain, all consistent with the same pattern of leaving without a plan and seeing what happens. On the Kazakhstan controversy specifically, Shim said: "There's apparently a lot of talk, but none of this looks unfamiliar to me. He's an oddly spontaneous person. Never a dull moment."

What the footage does and doesn't settle
The two streams of evidence, production's denial and the friends' testimony, address somewhat different questions. The friends are making a character argument: Jeon genuinely travels this way, so the Kazakhstan premise is plausible. That argument has weight, and the accumulation of named, specific anecdotes from multiple people does shift the picture somewhat.

What the footage does not resolve is the production question: whether the crew had logistical support in Almaty that wasn't disclosed on air, and whether the rental car notarization issue reflects a genuine oversight or something more deliberate. The production acknowledged the notarization gap; the tourism authority's website language has not been fully explained.

The broader controversy has also pulled an older allegation back into discussion. A YouTube channel previously claimed, based on statements from a former manager, that broadcaster Park Narae received significant behind-the-scenes help from staff during cooking segments on Na Honja Sanda, including preparation work done the day before filming holiday dishes. Park Narae built much of her on-screen persona around generously cooking large quantities of food for friends, so the suggestion that staff did more than the show implied attracted attention at the time. That episode is being revisited now as part of a wider conversation about where the line sits between production assistance and misrepresentation in a show whose entire premise is unfiltered real life.

The Na Honja Sanda team said it would take greater care in future productions. The show's regular cast, including Jeon Hyunmu, Code Kunst, Gian84, Girls' Generation's Yuri, Kim Daeho, and Kim Sinyoung, posted a group photo through the official account on the 26th ahead of the next episode airing on the 28th.
