Park Wi's 9 million won fee sparks outrage after recent incident
Park Wi has drawn significant attention due to his escalating performance fees, notably 9 million won for a scheduled talk concert, amid fallout from a recent incident involving a social service worker. His controversial approach to addressing the issue has sparked discussions on ethical practices in the industry.

Park Wi, a prominent YouTuber and influencer, has recently come under scrutiny following revelations about his escalating speaking fees, particularly a notable contract of 9.35 million won for his upcoming barrier-free performance titled Wiyracle Park Wi’s Talk Concert.

Barrier-free initiatives aim to dismantle obstacles faced by marginalized communities, including persons with disabilities. However, Park Wi's fees have led to public outcry, especially after recent events that involved him publicizing a fall incident where a social service worker was implicated. Critics argue that such high demands on fees during sensitive times reflect poorly on both the artist and the industry.
In a session with the Dongjak District's Administrative Finance Committee, Park Wi was mentioned regarding a fee of 1.2 million won for influencer engagements, revealing that he had previously asked for 1 million to 1.5 million won for similar events. This comes in the backdrop of varying reports regarding his fees: 500,000 won was reported to be paid by Geumsan-gun in 2023 for a special lecture, while Yongsan's social welfare department estimated costs to be around 600,000 won. Meanwhile, Bupyeong District contracted a special lecture service with his agency, Wiyracle Factory, for 446,200 won earlier this year.
The canceled concert arose from backlash following Park Wi's decision to publish footage of an incident from earlier this month when he fell while disembarking from a KTX train. The footage captured the moment he blamed a social service worker for not securing a movable ramp properly, further inflaming public sentiment. Though he deleted the video and issued an apology, the consequences of his actions linger, as evidenced by a significant drop in his YouTube subscribers below the 1 million mark, leading to the cancellation of scheduled events organized by both the Seoul City Hall and Gangnam Cultural Foundation.
Park Wi’s actions have prompted discussions about not just his personal conduct but also the broader implications for influencer obligations in the industry. As debates about ethical practices intensify, the discrepancy in how much influencers charge introduces questions about transparency and the responsibilities inherent in their public roles. With public sentiment turning sharply, it’s uncertain what this means for Park Wi’s future engagements and reputation in the changing landscape of the Korean entertainment industry.
