Lee Sang-soon Has Missed 8 Radio Broadcasts and His Agency Has Nothing to Say

Singer-songwriter Lee Sang-soon has now missed 8 broadcasts of his MBC FM4U show Perfect Day, Lee Sang-soon and his agency, Antenna, has one response when asked about it: "We haven't received an answer yet."

That's it. No return date, no health update, nothing.

How this started

The first sign of trouble came on August 26, when Lee arrived nearly two hours late to his own show. His close friend and fellow musician Thomas Cook opened the broadcast in his place, telling listeners not to worry, that "Soon-di" (Lee's affectionate nickname among fans) would be arriving shortly, just a little late due to poor condition.

Lee did eventually show up, with about 10 minutes left in the show. He apologized to listeners, explaining he had been inside the MBC building the whole time but had to visit the station's medical room. "My condition wasn't good," he said. "I lay down, got some consultation. Thomas Cook was doing so well, I'm really glad he was there. If I'd tried to host in that state, I don't think I could have managed it."

The next day, August 27, he didn't come in at all. Thomas Cook told listeners that after discussions with the production team, Lee had decided to take a few days of rest. "There's nothing specifically wrong with his body," Cook said. "It was judged that he needed to manage his condition, and after talking it over with the staff, he's taking some time off."

Eight days and counting

That "few days" has stretched considerably. Lee missed August 27 and 28 outright. A pre-recorded episode aired on August 29, the one broadcast in this stretch that actually featured him. Then from August 30 through September 5, he missed seven consecutive live shows, bringing the total to 8 absences from the live booth.

The production team has not issued any public update. Antenna's only statement, given on the 5th, was that they had not yet received a response when asked about the situation. No clarification, no timeline.

Thomas Cook has been holding the show together throughout, stepping in as special DJ for the extended run. Cook, a close friend of Lee's, has handled the slot smoothly enough that the show has continued without interruption, even if the chair that matters is empty.

Listeners have been flooding the show's message board and social media with well-wishes, asking after Lee's health and wondering when he might return. The silence from both the production side and the agency is doing nothing to settle those nerves.

Lee Sang-soon has hosted Perfect Day, Lee Sang-soon since November 4, 2024, broadcasting daily from 4 to 6 p.m. He built a following for his calm delivery and wide-ranging music selection, earning the "Soon-di" nickname in the process. He has been married to singer Lee Hyori since 2013.
