NewJeans' Super Shy crossed 900 million streams on Spotify as of September 4, clocking in at an exact count of 900,048,067 plays. The figure was confirmed by label ADOR on September 6, and it makes Super Shy the third NewJeans song to clear that threshold, following Ditto and OMG.

The track comes from Get Up, NewJeans' second EP, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in 2023. Super Shy was one of three simultaneous title tracks on that release, and it proved to be the one with the longest commercial legs: it spent eight weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and nine weeks on the UK Official Singles Chart Top 100, an unusually sustained run for a K-pop single on Western mainstream charts.

What made the song travel

Super Shy was built around a jersey club rhythm, a genre of electronic dance music originating in Newark, New Jersey, known for its high-tempo, syncopated kick patterns. The production gives the song a buoyant, almost giddy energy that sits differently from most K-pop of that era, and that distinctiveness likely helped it find listeners well outside the group's existing fanbase.

Pitchfork took note, describing it as an "effortless masterpiece" and placing it on their list of the 100 best songs of the 2020s, where it stands as the only K-pop entry. That kind of recognition from a publication known for scrutinizing pop on its own merits, not as a genre curiosity, is the kind of thing that ages well for a song's long-term streaming life.

The broader catalog picture

NewJeans' full Spotify catalog now sits at approximately 8 billion cumulative streams. The group also has 16 individual songs that have each crossed 100 million streams, which, across a discography that is still relatively young, is a genuinely striking concentration of per-song performance. Super Shy joining Ditto and OMG above 900 million suggests that the ceiling for those three tracks may yet move higher.
