Korean travel YouTuber's footage of being groped and nearly robbed in Tanzania passes 1 million views

A video that Korean travel YouTuber Moreunenji posted on March 27 has crossed 1.06 million views after circulating through online communities, months after its original upload. The footage documents a solo trip to Tanzania that turned harrowing, and its second wave of attention has reignited a broader conversation about safety for solo female travelers.

Moreunenji runs a YouTube channel of the same name with around 444,000 subscribers. She titled the video Why Women Should Never Travel Africa Alone, a framing blunt enough that it likely contributed to its renewed spread. She had traveled to Tanzania specifically to cross an African safari off her bucket list.

What the footage shows

The key sequence begins with Moreunenji riding on the back of a motorcycle driven by a local man. A group of men suddenly blocks their path, bringing the motorcycle to a stop. As a crowd closes in around her, she can be heard saying, "This is so scary. They're really going to take my money," and moments later noting that someone had tried to pull her phone from her pocket.

The men moved closer and made physical contact. Moreunenji repeatedly told them not to touch her, but they did not back off. The footage shows men grabbing her arms and shoulders, pressing against her, and one attempting to kiss her cheek. She added a subtitle to that portion of the video warning viewers it was disturbing to watch. She eventually managed to escape on the motorcycle, saying afterward, "I'm so scared they keep following, but I'm really relieved."

The incidents did not stop there. Walking through the city later, she pointed her camera at a man she said had just tried to grab her from behind, and described another attempt to steal her camera. At what appeared to be a main market, she said quietly, "I want to run away," and picked up her pace.

A more complicated picture

Moreunenji was careful not to frame every encounter negatively. She thanked a local shopkeeper who let her shelter from rain, and described her motorcycle driver as "a genuinely good person." The distinction mattered to her, and she maintained it throughout the video even as the more alarming incidents accumulated.

Wrapping up the trip, she said: "I only came for one thing, and why is it this hard? I'm genuinely naming this the worst destination I've ever traveled."

Viewer responses reflected the weight of what she had documented. Many said they were struck not just by the incidents themselves but by how she stayed composed through them. "I don't know how she held it together," one commenter wrote. "I think I would have broken down mentally." An overseas viewer pushed back gently on the video's title, noting that unsafe conditions for solo female travelers are not limited to any single continent. Others suggested she travel with a local guide if she returns.
