BLACKPINK's Rosé dropped new single new trick on the 18th, and the release comes with an unusually high-profile visual partner: Apple. The music video was filmed entirely on iPhone 18 Pro as part of Apple's ongoing Shot on iPhone campaign, placing Rosé alongside past participants Lady Gaga and Olivia Rodrigo in a lineage that Apple reserves for artists with genuine global pull.

Director Dave Meyers, whose credits include music videos for Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, and Ariana Grande, shot the clip. It is one of the more striking creative partnerships a K-pop soloist has landed in recent memory, and the combination of Meyers and the Shot on iPhone format means the visuals are as much a statement as the song itself.

The sound and the message

new trick is a garage punk track, a fusion of garage rock and punk rock that leans into raw, kinetic energy rather than the polished pop sheen Rosé is best known for. Thematically, the song is about refusing to be worn down by life's setbacks and pushing forward on your own terms, the "new trick" of the title being that self-forged way through hardship.

The production credits connect directly to her recent run of success. Amy Allen, who co-wrote the global smash APT., and producer Andrew Wells, who worked with Rosé on stay a little longer, both contributed to the track. That is a production team that already knows how to shape a Rosé vocal for maximum impact, and the genre shift here suggests they pushed each other somewhere new.

Building on APT.'s momentum

APT., her collaboration with American pop star Bruno Mars, peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 following the release of her debut solo album rosie in December 2024, cementing Rosé's status as one of K-pop's most commercially successful soloists internationally. A follow-up solo album is reportedly planned for next year.

new trick arrives not as a simple between-projects single but as a deliberate next move: a harder-edged sound, a world-class director, and a brand partnership that signals exactly where Rosé sees herself in the wider pop landscape.
