Rosé's New Single Was Filmed Entirely on an iPhone 18 Pro, and the MV Director Has Credits With Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar

Rosé is dropping a new single on September 18, and the rollout is anything but understated. Both Apple and the BLACKPINK member's official social media accounts announced on the 9th (local time) that new trick arrives at 7 p.m. ET on the 17th, or 8 a.m. KST on the 18th, with a music video filmed entirely on Apple's newly unveiled iPhone 18 Pro as part of the company's global "Shot on iPhone" campaign.

The campaign has previously anchored releases from Lady Gaga (Stupid Love), Olivia Rodrigo (Get Him Back!), and The Weeknd (Dancing in the Flames), putting Rosé in genuinely significant company for a brand partnership of this kind.

A lollipop, a guitar riff, and a tease

A roughly 15-second teaser posted simultaneously to Apple's and Rosé's Instagram accounts gives the first real listen to the track. In the clip, Rosé, blonde hair, holds a large burgundy lollipop with the words "new trick" wrapped across the candy. The audio snippet underneath is the part fans will be rewinding: a distorted electric guitar riff cuts through layered, stacked vocals for a punchy, slightly gritty edge that sounds markedly different from the softer emotional register of rosie, her December 2024 debut album.

Rosé also shared her own mirror-selfie photo holding an iPhone, captioning it "iPhone, new trick, watch this" with the hashtags #ShotoniPhone18Pro and #newtrick. The iPhone 18 Pro, announced alongside the campaign, introduces variable aperture control to the iPhone for the first time.

Dave Meyers behind the lens

The music video was directed by Dave Meyers, one of the most in-demand directors in pop. His credits include videos for Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Harry Styles, Ariana Grande, and SZA, and he previously worked with Rosé on the BLACKPINK video for JUMP in 2025. Having Meyers shoot a full music video on a smartphone camera is itself a statement, both about the iPhone 18 Pro's capabilities and about the ambition Apple is bringing to this particular campaign.

new trick is a pop-rock song co-written with singer-songwriter Amy Allen. It suggests Rosé is deliberately pushing into new sonic territory for this chapter of her solo career.

Building on 'rosie'

Rosé has spent the better part of the past year solidifying her standing as a global solo act. rosie launched in December 2024, and APT., its Bruno Mars collaboration and pre-release single, reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, one of the strongest chart performances by a K-pop solo artist on that chart. She is expected to follow up with another solo album next year, and new trick appears to be an early signal of where that project might head sonically.
