Waterbomb Seoul 2026 has become the center of a content debate this week after two separate performances set off waves of criticism online. The latest came from Zelo, formerly of B.A.P, who took the stage on July 25 at the KINTEX outdoor global stage in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

Zelo performed a set that included the B.A.P hit Daebak Incident, DJ DOC's Run To You, and an unreleased new track, backed by a full dance crew. At one point he removed his shirt, and later performed alongside bikini-clad dancers in a segment that drew immediate reaction online. A number of viewers described the choreography as simulating sexual acts, and even accounting for the festival's 19-and-older admission policy, many felt the staging crossed a line.

Zelo was not alone in facing that criticism. Singer and actress BIBI had already ignited a similar debate earlier in the festival run after slowly removing her jumpsuit on stage before performing on her knees among male dancers. The routine drew polarized responses, with some defending it as an artistic choice within an explicitly adult-rated space and others arguing the imagery was gratuitous regardless of age restriction.

Waterbomb is South Korea's largest summer water music festival and has built its identity around adults-only programming. That framing has historically given its performers wide creative latitude: bold outfits and provocative stages have long been part of the event's brand. But back-to-back incidents within the same edition of the festival have amplified the conversation in a way that individual cases rarely do.

The question the controversy really surfaces is whether an adults-only rating functions as a ceiling or simply as a floor. The festival has not publicly commented on either performance. Whether the backlash translates into any change in how Waterbomb books or briefs its artists next year is the thing worth watching.
