On August 19, the exact date BIGBANG marks 20 years since their debut, the group will release a brand-new digital single called BiiiG. It's their first music together as a team since the April 2022 single 봄여름가을겨울 (Still Life), a wait of roughly four years and four months that has kept VIPs counting.

YG Entertainment announced the release on August 10, dropping a title poster alongside the news. The image sets the tone immediately: three beams of light in blue, red, and yellow cut through deep darkness, with the silhouettes of the members positioned beneath them. The typographic treatment of BiiiG ties it together, stretching the familiar word into something that feels distinctly theirs.

The title itself is a small piece of wordplay with real weight behind it. Derived from the English word "big," the extended spelling BiiiG pulls the group's own name, BIGBANG, into the conversation, suggesting that the song is as much about identity as it is about a comeback. YG described BiiiG as "the track that most vividly captures where BIGBANG stands at their 20th anniversary," adding that fans should expect "another musical spectrum" from a group that has spent two decades building its own sound.

That sound has a long and well-decorated history behind it. BIGBANG debuted in 2006 and spent the following years stacking hits: 거짓말 (Lie), 마지막 인사 (Last Farewell), 하루하루 (Day by Day), FANTASTIC BABY, LOSER, 뱅뱅뱅 (BANG BANG BANG), BAE BAE. They wrote and produced much of their catalogue themselves, built a hip-hop-rooted sound that still felt commercially enormous, and pulled fashion and performance into the conversation in ways that other groups then followed. For K-pop's second generation, they were the benchmark.

Their 2022 comeback offered a reminder of how durable that standing is. Still Life topped major charts in South Korea and internationally without any accompanying broadcast promotion, and went on to win the Digital Track Award at the 37th Golden Disc Awards. The lesson was clear: BIGBANG does not need to campaign in the traditional sense to make an impact.

The question now is what BiiiG sounds like, and how the group has evolved through the years of individual activity and personal transitions that followed. YG's language around "another musical spectrum" is deliberately open-ended, but the framing of the song as a present-tense portrait of the group rather than a nostalgic look back is an interesting signal.

The release lands just two days before BIGBANG officially opens their BIGBANG 2026–2027 WORLD TOUR: XX : COSMOS at Goyang Stadium on August 21–23. From there, the tour moves through 19 cities across North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia, with a total of 33 scheduled shows and additional cities still to be announced. For a group with this catalogue, a live set drawing from two decades of material should give the setlist plenty to work with.
