Netflix Drops Gian84jang Season 2 Date: New Cast, New Mountain, No BTS Jin

Netflix has set a September 22 premiere date for Daehwanjang Gian84jang Season 2, and the show is already shaping up to be a noticeably different beast from its debut run.

The original Gian84jang launched in April last year, with webtoon artist and TV personality Gian84 running a one-of-a-kind guesthouse on the remote island of Ulleungdo. The summer-soaked backdrop gave Season 1 its relaxed, sun-drenched energy, and BTS's Jin and singer Ji Ye-eun were among the guests and staff who made it a fan favorite. Neither is returning for the second season.

A new setting, a new crew

Season 2 moves the operation inland and deep into winter: the "second branch" of Gian84jang opens in Daegwallyeong, Gangwon Province, a highland region known for its biting cold and heavy snowfall. Director Lee So-min described the shift as intentional. "If the first location showed the youth and romance of summer against Ulleungdo's sea, the second has a winter-only romance, everyone gathered in a warm room on a cold night, eating and talking and getting closer," she said.

Gian84 returns as what the show is calling the "experienced host," and three new staff members join him: volleyball legend Kim Yeon-koung, actor Lee Junho, and LE SSERAFIM's Kazuha. The mix of elite athlete, drama star, and K-pop idol is an intriguing one, and the contrast in personalities alone should generate the kind of low-key chaos the first season thrived on.

Director Lee also teased that Gian84's creative instincts have leveled up. "Season 2 showcases an imagination from Gian84 that surpasses the first location," she said, promising that the new guesthouse will be even more eccentric than the original. Given how charmingly offbeat the Ulleungdo setup already was, that's a bar worth watching him clear.

Gian84jang Season 2 premieres on Netflix on September 22.
