After Five Chapters of Boyhood, TXT Turn to Adult Anxiety on PERFECT STORM

In the PERFECT STORM concept trailer, Soobin wades into a lake just before the wind turns rough, and Taehyun stands in pouring rain without flinching. The clip, posted on the HYBE Labels YouTube channel at 9 p.m. KST on the 19th, announces TXT's ninth mini album, arriving November 16 at 6 p.m. KST.

The members (Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun and Hueningkai) say the album is about young people who want a change big enough to break up a stalled reality. It moves past the fantasies and wandering of the teenage years to face the weight of adulthood, and it does so bluntly. The label frames the theme as the pain of Gen Z coming of age.

A shift in who the story is about

TXT have spent years building a coming-of-age narrative through the Chapter of Dream, Chaos, Name and Star series, plus the minisode releases. This time the focus moves to people around the members' own age: the early-to-mid twenties, with the concrete hurt and anxiety that come with it. It's a natural step for a group whose story has aged alongside them.

Five ways to face a storm

The trailer gives each member his own image of waiting for something to break:

• Soobin walks into a lake before the rough wind arrives.

• Yeonjun endures centrifugal force inside a rotating drum, like the center of a typhoon.

• Beomgyu nervously pulls loose threads from his clothes, a picture of instability.

• Hueningkai observes and records signs of the wind in a room full of monitors.

• Taehyun takes the downpour head-on, with no attempt to dodge it.

The visuals are stylish and the music is quiet, which gives the clip a held-breath quality. Hueningkai's monitor room is the most interesting choice: he is the one preparing for the storm by watching it, while Taehyun simply lets it land.

PERFECT STORM is released on November 16 at 6 p.m. KST.
