Hyoyeon Noticed Sooyoung 'Had No Energy': Then Got Her a Gift

Girls' Generation's Hyoyeon said the quiet part out loud on her YouTube series, and fans clocked it immediately.

In episode 5 of the 'HyoRiSoo Debut Project,' uploaded July 29 to Hyoyeon's channel Hyo's Level Up, the three-member unit spent the day at MBC headquarters meeting with the producer of Show! Music Core to pitch stage ideas. Routine enough. But the moment that cut through came at the end of the episode, when Hyoyeon handed out health slippers to Yuri and Sooyoung as gifts.

When the production crew asked why she'd been giving the members presents so frequently, Hyoyeon didn't reach for a safe answer. "Yuri keeps saying she wants to quit, and Sooyoung looked like she had no energy," she said. "I figured a gift might cheer them up."

The comment about Sooyoung is the part people are sitting with. Sooyoung recently confirmed her split from actor Jung Kyung-ho after roughly seven years together, and Hyoyeon's candid observation on camera is the closest anyone in the group's orbit has come to acknowledging what that kind of news costs a person.

The mood in the clip didn't stay heavy. Yuri shot back that there's a saying about shoes as gifts meaning the recipient will run away, at which point Hyoyeon visibly blanked and went "Oh, right" in a moment of genuine flustered energy that broke the room.

The unit 'HyoRiSoo' (Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung) is operating as a rival act to fellow Girls' Generation sub-unit TaeTiSeo, with the inter-unit competition framed as the central concept of the project. Episode 5 had them throwing out stage ideas that recalled the Girls' Generation era, trading their usual sharpness alongside actual music industry meetings. The slippers bit was the coda, but it was also the most unguarded two minutes of the series so far.
