IU's Health Forced Her to Cancel Concerts: She's Still Meeting Fans for Her 18th Anniversary

IU is showing up. Despite worsening patulous Eustachian tube symptoms that forced her to postpone a planned stadium concert and delay her sixth studio album, the singer-actress has confirmed in-person stage greetings and special fan screenings to mark her 18th debut anniversary, a decision that landed with predictable warmth among her fanbase, U-ENNNA.

CJ CGV announced on the 15th that both IU Concert: The Golden Hour and IU Concert: The Winning will hold "IKEY" sing-along screenings and stage greeting events. The Golden Hour is currently in re-release after reopening on the 9th, while The Winning is set to reopen on the 16th. Ticket reservations for the sing-along screenings open at 5 p.m. KST on the 15th through CGV, with stage greeting tickets following at 6 p.m. the same day.

What the anniversary events look like

The IKEY screenings take their name from IU's official light stick, which fans are encouraged to wave throughout. Lyrics subtitles will be displayed on screen so audiences can sing along, and unlike a standard film screening, open audience reactions are welcome. Both films will hold these special screenings from September 18 to 20, spanning IU's actual debut date. Everyone attending gets an exclusive photocard, with different visuals for each film to give collectors a reason to catch both.

The headline event is IU's in-person appearance on the 20th at CGV Yongsan iPark Mall in Seoul. She'll participate in a total of six sessions across both films, two for The Golden Hour, four for The Winning, giving U-ENNNA a rare chance to be in the same room as her during a period when she has otherwise stepped back from public activity. CGV has also promised additional fan events during the stage greetings, though full details will be released through the CGV website, official app, and CGV ICECON social channels.

The Golden Hour documents IU's concert The Golden Hour: Under the Orange Sun, which made history as the first solo concert by a Korean female artist held at Olympic Main Stadium. The Winning captures the final chapter of her first world tour, HEREH ENCORE: THE WINNING, which also marked her 100th concert. Both films translate the scale of those live productions, the staging, the lighting, the raw vocal performances, into a cinema format that holds up on its own terms.

The health situation behind the hiatus

Patulous Eustachian tube disorder, the condition IU has been managing, causes the Eustachian tube to remain abnormally open rather than closing properly. For a performing artist, the symptoms, which can include distorted self-perception of one's own voice and difficulty maintaining vocal control in large acoustic environments, are particularly disruptive.

IU addressed the situation directly on July 20, writing that the worsening symptoms made it impossible to proceed with her planned Goyang Stadium concert in September. She also explained that her sixth studio album had been designed around a live tour as its main promotional vehicle, making a standalone release impractical. Both the concert and the album have been delayed to an unspecified later date.

In the meantime, she released a new single, 이 별로부터, on the 10th, which drew considerable attention as a small signal of creative activity during an otherwise quiet stretch.

That she's choosing to attend six live theater sessions in the middle of a health-mandated slowdown says something. For the fans who have been holding space since July, the stage greetings are likely to feel less like a promotional event and more like a proper answer.
