BLACKPINK's Jennie Drops Her First Animated Film OST for Netflix's Steps

BLACKPINK's Jennie has an awards nomination for a song the public couldn't hear until 2 p.m. today. "Someone to Hold," her OST for the Netflix animated film Steps, is up for Song - Animated Film at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards, which honors music in film, TV and other visual media.

Her agency, OA Entertainment, confirmed the release on the 6th. It is Jennie's first time contributing to an animated film soundtrack.

The song is a ballad. Per the announcement, it closes out the film's emotional climax and centers on the bond between sisters.

What Steps is about

Steps arrives on Netflix on the 20th. The story follows Lilith, one of Cinderella's stepsisters, who steals the Fairy Godmother's magic wand and sets off the chain of events.

Jennie said the job was a pleasure. "I really enjoyed working on a song for an animated film for the first time," she said. She added that she liked the characters' warmth and individuality, and was happy to be part of their world in a small way.

A ballad is a quieter lane than most of what fans associate with her solo output. Whether it lands the way the nomination suggests is something listeners can now judge for themselves.
