Jo Jung-suk Is Gaining Weight Because of His Daughters' Leftover Fried Rice

Actor Jo Jung-suk appeared on the YouTube channel Geunyang Jinju on the 7th, in an episode titled 'Guradio: Destiny, Fated Friends Tied by Saju.' The lighthearted conversation touched on his current fitness routine and, more revealingly, the domestic rhythms of raising two young daughters.

Jo told hosts Jinju and Yun Gyeongho that he has been dieting, with running as his main method. When both praised how much slimmer he looked, Jo was candid about what had prompted the effort. "After my second daughter was born I took a break, put on some weight, so I need to lose it," he said. Jinju suggested he must have been eating well during the downtime, and Jo confirmed it in the most relatable way possible: he makes fried rice for his daughters, and whatever they leave behind, he finishes himself rather than throw it away.

His eldest has apparently developed a preference for her father's version over her mother's, and Jo admitted he quietly surveys the competition. "Sometimes I ask: whose fried rice is better, dad's or mom's? And they say dad's, so they ask me to make it," he said. When Yun Gyeongho pressed him for the recipe, Jo revealed his edge: sesame oil. He believes it is the key difference, but added that his wife, singer Gummy, does not use it. More amusingly, he has chosen not to tell her. "I haven't said anything," he noted.

Jo Jung-suk married Gummy in 2018 and the couple have two daughters together. He has recently confirmed his next project: a new Netflix series titled Paperman, which will likely put his running habit to good use before production begins.

The appearance is a small window into how Jo navigates the gap between projects, a period Korean actors increasingly use for candid variety-style content that maintains public presence without a formal promotional cycle. For Jo, that gap has apparently involved a lot of fried rice.
