"I don't want to die for nothing." That is how Kim Yoo-jung's Lee Ga-kyung announced she was quitting as a spy in episode 5 of tvN's 100 Days of Deception, which aired on the night of the 24th, after she was made to interpret at the interrogation of a captured independence fighter.

The episode ends with Yoo Pil-lip (Lee Moo-saeng) walking up behind her in the rain, a gun in his hand.

An interpreter who recognizes the prisoner

Police bureau chief Fukuda (Kim Joong-hee) crossed paths with Ga-kyung in a Government-General corridor and deliberately arranged, through Kim Tae-woong (Park Jin-young), to take her along as his interpreter. Inside Jongno Police Station, the man being questioned was Geum Seok-joong (Kam Woo-sung).

Seok-joong stayed silent through Fukuda's repeated questioning and abuse. Ga-kyung had already recognized his face and was too frightened to translate quickly, so Fukuda shouted "Geum Seo-hee!" at her to hurry.

Hearing his daughter's name changed Seok-joong at once. He struggled and shouted, demanding to know why she was using that name and who she really was. Fukuda doesn't speak Korean but sensed something was wrong and grew angry, while Ga-kyung froze in fear.

Tae-woong's plan

Tae-woong stepped in to shield Ga-kyung and asked about the results of the Gukgukdan interrogation. Fukuda slapped him and sneered that he was a Korean, not Sato Shin-ichi's real son. Then Sato Shin-ichi (Jin Sun-kyu) appeared, which was exactly what Tae-woong had planned. Fukuda bowed and begged forgiveness. Sato sent Tae-woong and Ga-kyung out, then slapped Fukuda in punishment.

Running in the rain

Back home, Ga-kyung changed into hanbok and packed in a hurry. At her door she ran into Yoo So-ran (Kim Hyun-joo), and told her what she had seen at the station, declaring she would not die a pointless death and was quitting. So-ran said traitors are dealt with and tried to stop her.

When Ga-kyung said she had interpreted at Seok-joong's torture, So-ran was devastated. As Ga-kyung relayed what he had said, she realized he was Seo-hee's father, and So-ran's husband. Shaken, she cried out, "You're all insane. What is independence that you give your lives for it? No one will ever know."

Panicking, she fled the house and tripped on a stone. She was gathering her belongings, scattered in the rain, when Pil-lip approached from behind.
