Gong Hyo-jin's Married Woman Killer Ends at a Series-High 10.7%

MBC's Married Woman Killer went out on top. The 14th and final episode, which aired on the 12th, recorded a nationwide rating of 10.7% according to Nielsen Korea, the highest the show ever posted across its entire run.

The closing hour was built around the marriage at the show's core. Yoo Bo-na (Gong Hyo-jin), the suburban housewife with a classified past, steps in front of a bullet to protect her husband Kwon Tae-seong (Jung Joon-won). Before walking out of their home, she tells him she will become his hell, a line that lands heavier knowing she means it as a warning, not a threat. Six months later, the two are reunited at a mountain lodge full of shared memories, both of them in tears.

The finale's finishing touch

What gives the ending its texture is what comes after the reconciliation. Back to ordinary life, Bo-na catches a news report about a woman stabbed to death and, with the lightest possible raise of an eyebrow, mutters, "Okay, shall we go?" It's a small moment, but it's the one that confirms the show always knew exactly what it was: a domestic drama with a predator at its center, and the two were never really in conflict.

The finale had been building toward a standoff in the Seonyudo area, where antagonist Leila (Lee Eliya), revealed in a previous episode as the KingFisher copycat who once clashed bitterly with Bo-na in Russia, drew Kwon Tae-seong into the scene as leverage. Tae-seong had known the broad outlines of his wife's identity, but seeing her in action for the first time, gun raised, was a different kind of shock. The sequence resolved with Bo-na cradling her husband's neck in an image that somehow managed to hold desperation and tenderness in the same frame.

A new show arrives in its slot

The same night, KBS 2TV's new weekend drama Another Love (너 말고 다른 연애) premiered with a 2.6% opening rating. The first episode introduces Nam-goong Ho (Seo Kang-joon) and Lee Mi-do (Ahn Eun-jin), childhood friends who became a couple at 26 and have now spent ten years together, only for Mi-do to turn down Ho's marriage proposal on the very day he makes it.

The break makes sense within her logic: Mi-do is a film director who just got fired from a project after a falling-out with her lead actress, and launching a new chapter of life without having achieved her professional dreams feels like defeat she isn't ready for. Ho, stable and recognized at a large company, cannot quite reach where she is emotionally. Both then find themselves encountering new people, Ho's younger colleague Park Su-a (Jo A-ram) and Mi-do's divorce lawyer Han Tae-seung (Lee Ju-an), which sets up the romantic reshuffling the series will presumably spend its remaining episodes exploring.

A 2.6% debut is a modest start, though weekend dramas on KBS 2TV frequently build through word of mouth in their early weeks. Whether the Seo Kang-joon and Ahn Eun-jin pairing generates that kind of momentum remains to be seen.
