From K-Pop Star to Mom of Three: Sunye Enjoys a Summer Break in Sokcho

Former Wonder Girls member Sunye posted a set of vacation photos to her social media on August 4th, captioned "SUMMER & WE at the BEACH," showing her family at the beach city of Sokcho on South Korea's east coast. It's the kind of update that catches fans off guard: someone they watched perform on stage a decade ago, now sitting on a beach mat with three daughters old enough to run toward the water on their own.

In the photos, Sunye is seen relaxing on the sand in a black V-neck top and retro-style sunglasses. Separate shots show her daughters walking toward the sea together, sand toys in hand, their backs to the camera. Another image captures two of them taking in the Sokcho Eye, the observation wheel that has become something of a landmark for visitors to the city. Fans in the comments were quick to note how tall the girls have gotten, with responses along the lines of "they've grown so much" and "Sunye looks exactly the same."

The family also ate haemul ramyeon (seafood ramen) and walked through the town during their stay, according to the captions.

Sunye married James Park, a Korean-Canadian missionary, in 2013, and the couple have three daughters together. She currently lives in South Korea and has remained active in the performing arts, balancing musical theater and music work alongside raising her family. It is a quieter kind of career than her Wonder Girls years, but one she has maintained consistently since returning to the public eye.

Wonder Girls, one of the defining girl groups of the late 2000s K-pop wave, disbanded in 2017. Sunye was the group's leader, and her early marriage and move abroad during the group's active years made her something of an outlier in an industry where personal milestones are often carefully managed. That she posts candidly about family life now, without much ceremony, fits a pattern she has maintained for years.
