Korea's Starship and Japan's Amuse Just Launched a 7-Member Boy Group: Meet AN
AN, a 7-member boy group jointly created by Korea's Starship Entertainment and Japan's Amuse, released their debut album today. The 10-track bilingual release targets both the Korean and Japanese markets simultaneously, with every original song offered in both languages.

AN dropped their debut album today, and the group's origin story is almost as interesting as the music: they are the first act built jointly by Korea's Starship Entertainment and Japan's major entertainment company Amuse, a co-production structure that is genuinely rare in either market.
The album title carries the meaning "a new era of this very moment", which is the kind of grand statement every debut makes, but here there's at least a structural argument behind it. Seven members, two countries, one release date.
The lineup took shape through Starship's 2024 audition and development project Debut's Plan, which produced six of the seven members: Jiyong, Bomin, Gyuhyeon, Haru, Junseo, and Kaira. The seventh, Haruto, joined to complete the roster, four Korean members, three Japanese. It's a split that maps neatly onto the group's dual-market strategy.
That strategy is baked directly into the album. The release contains 10 tracks total: five original songs, each recorded in both Korean and Japanese versions. No phased rollout, no separate regional release. Both versions land at the same time.
The title track 'X to Z (Next to Me)' goes for an electronic rock fusion sound built around electric guitar and synth bass. Thematically, it's about staying by someone's side across any distance or boundary, a fitting message for a group designed to cross a pretty literal one.
The rest of the tracklist covers a lot of ground in five songs. 'Clockwise' works with dynamic beat changes; 'Focus On Me' leans into a bright, breezy house dance-pop feel; 'CHILLS' is straight electronic pop; and 'HIGHFIVE' closes things out with a funky hip-hop base.
Whether AN can actually move the needle in both markets at once is the real question. The Starship-Amuse partnership gives them infrastructure on both sides, but bilingual releases and cross-national rosters aren't new ideas, execution is where most of them stall. Today is day one.
