BIGBANG Debuts 'BiiiG' at #1 on Melon Within an Hour, Kicks Off 20th Anniversary World Tour
BIGBANG released 'BiiiG,' their first single in four years and four months, on their 20th debut anniversary on August 19 and shot straight to number one on Melon's TOP 100 chart within a single hour. The trio of G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung follows the release by opening their 'XX : COSMOS' world tour in Goyang, with 33 shows across 19 cities planned globally.

BIGBANG landed their first number one in years before most fans had even finished their first listen. Released at 6 p.m. KST on August 19, the exact date of the group's 20th debut anniversary, the digital single BiiiG climbed to the top of Melon's TOP 100 chart within sixty minutes, a feat that matters more than it might sound on paper.

Melon's TOP 100 ranks songs by combining 24-hour streaming figures with the most recent hour's numbers, which means a brand-new track enters at a significant structural disadvantage. Since the chart adopted this format in August 2021, only a handful of releases have debuted directly at number one: BTS's Yet To Come and SWIM, IU's Love Wins All, and G-Dragon's solo TOO BAD. By midnight the following day, BiiiG had also claimed the top spot on Bugs, Genie, and Vibe. The four-year-and-four-month wait is over, and the audience responded immediately.

This is BIGBANG's first official release as a trio, and the first since Still Life (봄여름가을겨울) in spring 2022. The group now consists of G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung, and BiiiG makes no attempt to paper over the changed lineup. If anything, the song leans into what the three of them do best: a heavy, stomping hip-hop foundation with enough sonic mass to fill a stadium.

The production is built for a crowd. Teddy and Kush of The Black Label anchored the composition alongside a wider team that includes 24, IDO, BLOODY, and TARZZAN of All Day Project. G-Dragon co-wrote the lyrics with lil aaron and Kaine, and his fingerprints are all over the way the track moves: rhythm pushed and pulled at will, wordplay layered into every available pocket of space. Taeyang's vocal sits looser and groovier over the harder beats, adding spring where the track might otherwise feel rigid. Daesung, meanwhile, takes the chorus and pulls the heat higher every time it returns.
What the three voices share is a distinct refusal to blend into each other. Rather than a unified wash of sound, the arrangement sequences them so each arrival registers as its own moment. It's the kind of dynamic split that works especially well in a live context, when tens of thousands of people know exactly whose voice they're hearing.
The construction of BiiiG is deliberately simple and deliberately effective. The hook repeats a single phrase in a pattern designed less for concentrated listening than for mass participation: you learn it in one pass, and by the second chorus you're already singing along. As a pure audio experience, there's an argument it runs a little lean. As a world tour opener, it reads as an extremely deliberate choice.
The references buried in the lyrics give the song a second layer for longtime fans. A nod to 붉은 노을 (Sunset Glow), one of BIGBANG's most beloved early hits, slips in beside a shout to the VIPs who've been lighting up arenas with their Bbang-bong light sticks for two decades. Salvador Dali and Muhammad Ali appear in the same breath, rhymed together as Dali-Ali, an unlikely pairing that somehow captures both BIGBANG's artistic restlessness and their competitive drive. Lines referencing their longevity carry a particular kind of confidence, the easy swagger of a group that genuinely has the catalog to back it up.
The music video extends the song's go-big logic into surrealism. Three coffin-shaped aircraft slice through outer space, G-Dragon riding one of them while moving with deliberate looseness. An enormous birthday cake stamped with the number 20 fills an entire set, then its cross-section becomes its own room. A globe becomes a floor. A car hangs suspended in midair. Fisheye lenses, handheld camera movement, and rough vintage camcorder footage get spliced in throughout, giving the whole thing a texture that feels intentionally unpolished, improvisational in a way that suits the group's long-established aesthetic better than anything too pristine would.
Beyond the single, a larger anniversary project is already underway in Seoul, with media installations and the Seokchon Lake lighting display running around the city.
Two days after the release, on August 21, BIGBANG opened their BIGBANG 2026-2027 World Tour 'XX : COSMOS' in Goyang, with three nights scheduled there before the tour expands to 19 cities and 33 total shows across North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia. In a message posted to their official social media on debut day, the three members said the love of the people watching them is what made it possible to shine, and that they are ready for whatever comes next.
After four years of near-silence, BiiiG functions as both a celebration of what BIGBANG has been and a clear-eyed announcement of where they're going. The chart says the audience is already on board.
