'Butter' Joins the Club: BTS Add Another 1.1 Billion-View MV to Their Collection
BTS's 'Butter' crossed 1.1 billion views on YouTube on July 27, making it the group's seventh music video to reach that milestone. Released in May 2021, the English-language dance-pop single set a then-record by hitting 100 million views in just 21 hours and spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.

BTS's Butter music video crossed 1.1 billion views on YouTube at around 2 a.m. KST on July 27, becoming the group's seventh video to reach that number. Big Hit Music confirmed the milestone, and the count adds Butter to a growing list that now sits comfortably in a league of its own in K-pop.
The other six videos in that club are Dynamite, Boy With Luv, DNA, the MIC Drop remix, FAKE LOVE, and IDOL, all of which crossed the 1.1 billion mark before Butter made it seven. For a group that essentially built its own lane on the platform, it reads less like a surprise and more like the expected next step.

Butter was BTS's second English-language single and arrived in May 2021 with numbers that were hard to process in real time: 10 million views in 13 minutes, and 100 million views in 21 hours, which was a K-pop record at the time. The video's direction plays on contrast throughout, cutting between black-and-white and full color, tailored suits and athletic wear, with the choreography shifting to match each register.
The performance itself is a highlight of the video's appeal. The hair-sweep move, the hand kiss moment, and the precise footwork sequences each became signature moments fans circled back to repeatedly, which partly explains how a video released four years ago keeps accumulating views at a meaningful pace.

On the chart side, Butter debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 dated June 5, 2021, and went on to top the chart ten times total across a 20-week run. It remains one of the most commercially successful K-pop singles ever released in the Western market.
With seven videos now past 1.1 billion views, BTS's YouTube presence continues to hold up remarkably well for a group currently on a hiatus period while members complete their mandatory military service. The milestone is a reminder of just how deep the catalog runs.
