Cha Tae-hyun and Eom Ji-won Team Up as a Cop Couple in New Netflix Comedy 'Return to Duty'

Netflix has confirmed production on Return to Duty (복직경찰), a family action comedy starring Cha Tae-hyun and Eom Ji-won as a married couple whose separate lives in law enforcement collide at the worst possible moment.

Cha Tae-hyun plays Dong-sik, a violent crimes detective who suddenly finds himself as the sole caregiver for five children after his wife heads off unexpectedly, just as he is preparing for a promotion exam. Eom Ji-won plays Gyeong-a, a former ace police officer who spent a decade out of the workforce raising their kids, and who agrees to re-enter service by accepting a classified National Intelligence Service operation. The setup puts both characters in over their heads simultaneously, which appears to be the film's central comic engine.

The five siblings are played by Do Young-seo, Kim Na-eun, Jung Han-sol, Shim Ji-an, and Kim Ra-hee.

Director Kim Jong-hyun is behind the camera. He is best known for Superstar Mr. Gam (2004), a comedy about an amateur athlete who becomes a national sensation, and the sports sequel Take Off 2 (2016). Both films leaned on ensemble warmth and physical comedy, qualities that fit the material here.

No release date has been announced. The film will premiere on Netflix.
