M Returns After Three Decades
The legendary horror drama M is set to make a comeback after 33 years, being reimagined as M: Reboot. Streaming platform 티빙 announced on September 15 that the new series will star Jung Chae-yeon and Jung Gun-ju, aiming to captivate both fans of the original and a new audience.
Originally aired in 1994, M became a cultural phenomenon, with an average viewership rating of 38.6% and a peak of 52.2%. The story follows Marie, portrayed by Jung Chae-yeon, a promising ballerina who becomes intertwined with a mysterious persona known as 'M', leading to a series of unsettling events. This character was famously brought to life by the iconic actress 심은하 in the original series, and now, Jung Chae-yeon will take on the challenging role that includes a unique twist of playing both the ballerina and her alter ego.
Alongside her, Jung Gun-ju plays Jiseok, an ace detective unraveling a string of strange occurrences linked to Marie. The drama promises a blend of thrilling suspense and psychological horror, similar to its predecessor.
The screenplay is penned by Hong Eun-mi, known for films like Missing: The Other Side and Hidden Face, alongside emerging talent Lee Jeong-eun. Director Lim Dae-woong, recognized for his work on The Teacher's Give and Take and the mobile TV drama It's Night, is at the helm of this highly anticipated project.
As the launch date approaches, viewers are eager to see how M: Reboot will honor the legacy of the original while presenting fresh narratives and characters for a modern audience.
