Shin Min-a Returns to You Quiz After 6 Years With a Quiet Marriage Verdict

Shin Min-a said her husband Kim Woo-bin tells her she looks "the prettiest I've ever seen" even when she has gained weight or is not at her best. She shared the detail on the October 28 episode of tvN's You Quiz on the Block (episode 366), her first appearance as a guest in six years.

The episode followed a pattern that has run through the couple's public image for a decade: little spectacle, a lot of steadiness. Asked by host Yoo Jae-suk how she relaxes at home, Shin described a domestic routine that sounds almost deliberately unremarkable. "I have my own spot on the sofa, the one that's comfortable for me," she said. "We each have an assigned seat." When a film or a streaming title comes out they watch it, she added, and they scroll YouTube like everyone else.

Asked about plans for their first wedding anniversary, she said there are none yet. Both have worked without a break since the wedding, she explained.

What changed after the wedding

Shin called the biggest change since marrying "a subtle comfort." It feels, she said, like having someone who is truly on her side, a person who promised to be. Many people have told her she looks more at ease, and she thinks that reflects how she feels inside. Yoo agreed that a gentle calm can be worth more than being giddily, overwhelmingly happy.

She also shared what they say to each other most at home. Her own recurring line is practical: when packages pile up from her shoots outside Seoul, she tells Kim to open them quickly. His is compliments. Too shy to repeat it at first, she eventually said it was "you look pretty." He says it, she explained, even when she is in poor shape. "Feeling loved like that made me really happy," she said.

On love itself, Shin said she sees it as a matter of the heart more than the head, something that cannot be measured in amount or shape and has to be felt. Her own way of giving it, she said, is to pay attention, keep someone in mind and express it.

Turning 40 and the roles still ahead

Now in her forties, Shin said the decade differs from her thirties in one respect: letting go of the urge to be the best, the most special, the most unusual becomes a habit. She said she has learned to separate obsession from passion for the sake of her mind and health.

She does not treat age as a limit on her career. She called it not a young age but not too late to learn and start things, and noted she has never played a villain, appeared in a traditional historical drama or played an assassin. "So I think there is still a lot to do," she said.

A relationship built over a decade

Shin and Kim, who is five years her junior, met on an advertising shoot in 2014 and confirmed their relationship in 2015. They married on December 20 last year after about ten years together. Kim was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer in May 2017, and Shin stayed beside him through treatment. The Buddhist teacher Venerable Pomnyun, who had been a source of emotional support for Kim during that period, officiated the ceremony.

In the lead-up to the broadcast, Shin also posted a set of photos on her personal account on the 27th with no caption. They showed her during hair and makeup, wearing a smoky look with heavy eyeliner and full lashes, a contrast with the soft, pure image she is usually known for. In the You Quiz preview clip, she had laughed shyly while repeating Kim's "you look pretty," a line that fans quickly connected to the new pictures.
