IU Woke Up at 7AM for Her First-Ever Open Run to Spoil Kim Young-ok and Na Moon-hee

IU had never done an open run in her life. That changed at 7 o'clock on a weekday morning, when she showed up at Changeok Tteok, one of Seoul's currently sold-out-by-midday rice cake shops, wearing a mask and carrying a mission: buy enough tteok to spoil every single person on the set of her new music video.

The behind-the-scenes footage was uploaded to her YouTube channel, 이지금 [IU Official], on the 14th under the title [IU TV] 죄목 : 크레이지 소울메이트 (loosely, "Charge: Crazy Soulmate"). It documents the lead-up to filming for her new song Dear my crazy soulmate, whose music video features veteran actresses Na Moon-hee and Kim Young-ok alongside actors Shim Dal-gi and Lee Som.

"I've come to Changeok Tteok," IU says in the footage, explaining that the shop had been generating serious buzz lately and she wanted to bring something special to the senior actresses. At 7AM, she noted with evident relief, the line hadn't formed yet. "This is the first open run of my life," she added, "and it's happening at Changeok Tteok. I love you, teachers."

She didn't stop at Na Moon-hee and Kim Young-ok. After picking out enough tteok for the two senior actresses, IU turned her attention to her other co-stars. "I should get some for Dal-gi and Som too," she said, and then kept going, stacking up portions for staff members as well. By the time she left, she described the errand as having gone more smoothly than expected for a weekday morning, though she was prepared to wait.

A music video built on generational range

The casting of Dear my crazy soulmate already had fans paying attention before a single frame dropped. Na Moon-hee and Kim Young-ok are two of Korean cinema and television's most decorated character actresses, and seeing them appear alongside IU on a music video set carries real weight. The behind-the-scenes footage leans into exactly that chemistry, catching warm moments between the generations on set.

IU released Dear my crazy soulmate on the 10th. It arrives during a period when she has been managing her health following a worsening of patulous Eustachian tube symptoms, a condition that affects how the ear regulates pressure and can make performing and vocal work uncomfortable. Her agency has said that her recovery takes scheduling priority, and some planned appearances and performance dates have been adjusted accordingly. The fact that she filmed this music video with such evident care and came to set bearing handmade gifts says something about where her energy is going right now: not toward obligations, but toward the people she genuinely wanted to work with.
