Jeon Do-yeon and Park Hae-soo Face Off Over Real Estate in New tvN Noir Drama

Jeon Do-yeon and Park Hae-soo are reuniting for a third screen collaboration, this time in a noir drama that uses South Korea's fraught housing market as its battleground. tvN announced on the 10th that The Great Bang Ok-sook will air in the first half of 2027.

The pairing has built steadily across different formats: the two previously worked together in the stage production The Cherry Orchard and in the Netflix series Presumed, making this their first major domestic television project as co-leads.

The premise

Adapted from a webtoon of the same name, The Great Bang Ok-sook is framed as a survival noir. On one side is Bang Ok-sook, the iron-fisted head of the residents' association at an apartment complex called Noble Gold Castle. Jeon Do-yeon plays her as someone who clawed her way into a Han River-view unit and will do almost anything to protect its value. On the other side is Yun Tae-ung, a redevelopment association chairman who, after a decade of stalled plans, suddenly accelerates the project and throws the entire complex into crisis. Park Hae-soo takes that role.

The setup maps cleanly onto a real social tension in Korea, where apartment prices in desirable districts have become a defining preoccupation across generations, and residents' associations wield genuine influence over neighborhood redevelopment decisions. Placing a noir story inside that world gives the premise a specificity that distinguishes it from more conventional property dramas.

Behind the camera

The creative team carries significant weight. The script comes from Lee Gi-cheol, who wrote the screenplays for the films The Thieves, Assassination, and Mogadishu, a track record that suggests the show will lean into ensemble plotting and sustained tension rather than romantic comedy-adjacent lightness. Director Kim Hyung-sik, known for Surgeon Bong Dal-hee, Ghost, Secret Door, and Under the Queen's Umbrella, brings experience with both period and contemporary material.

The supporting cast includes Kim Sun-young, Kim Geum-soon, Kim Guk-hee, Woo Jung-won, Kong Sung-ha, and Baek Hyun-jin.
