Jeon Hyun-moo Admits a Past Partner's Obsession Cost Him His Friendships

Broadcaster and TV personality Jeon Hyun-moo shared on the upcoming variety program I Met a Psychopath that a past relationship left him isolated from his friends, a pattern he now recognizes as control rather than affection. The admission came during a segment on the show that examines real cases where love was used as justification for dominance and manipulation.

The MBN and SBS Plus co-production, airing on the 9th at 10:20 p.m., is built around the theme of "discovering relationships", specifically the moments when romantic attachment crosses into something more troubling. Jeon was watching a case about a partner's obsession and control when he said, quietly, "I was that person," and began recounting his own experience.

According to Jeon, his former partner required him to make video calls from wherever he was, and those calls weren't just check-ins: he had to show each friend who was present with him, one by one. The cumulative pressure of that dynamic, he said, led him to simply stop seeing those friends. The social erosion happened gradually enough that it took the relationship ending for him to fully register what had been lost.

What followed the breakup stayed with him. "The thing I heard most after we broke up," Jeon said, "was 'Hyunmu, welcome back.'" That detail, friends greeting his return as though he'd been away somewhere, quietly captures how thoroughly the relationship had narrowed his world.

He was visibly emotional recounting the story, and was direct about what he now thinks it meant. "Speaking as someone who's been through it," he said, "that is not love."

Also appearing in the episode is Kim Mi-young, a statement analyst who previously worked on violent crime cases and now studies psychopathic psychology and gaslighting tactics. Kim assessed the panelists during the broadcast and singled out both Jeon Hyun-moo and Super Junior's Kyuhyun as showing a notable streak of what she described as fraudster tendencies. Kyuhyun responded with visible surprise: "So now I'm a psychopath and a con artist?"
