Kang Jae-jun Lost 32kg, Then Rebounded to 101kg: Now He's Starting Over

Korean comedian Kang Jae-jun went from a celebrated 32kg weight loss to hitting 101kg again, and he's not dodging what went wrong. Appearing on a YouTube channel, he traced the relapse to extreme crash dieting and the mental spiral that followed, and has now set a new target weight of 77kg.

OMONAR

Korean comedian Kang Jae-jun hit 101kg a few months ago, the same man who once shed 32kg and became something of a running evangelist. He's now down to 93kg, and he went on the Shane and Together YouTube channel on the 13th to say it out loud: he's trying again, this time targeting 77kg.

The candor is the story. Kang acknowledged that fans who watched his previous transformation felt genuinely let down when the weight came back, and he said the guilt was part of what pushed him to restart. "I'm sorry, and that's why I decided to diet again," he said.

He didn't make excuses so much as diagnose what went wrong. When running became impossible, the mood collapsed. Alcohol came back. Old habits followed. And the diet itself, he admitted, was simply too aggressive. "I should have mixed in normal meals and taken it gradually, but the diet I was running was so extreme that it broke me mentally," he said. That psychological strain is what unravelled everything.

The yo-yo pattern Kang described is well-documented: crash dieting pushes the body to cut energy expenditure, dropping the basal metabolic rate. Return to old eating habits in that state and the math gets ugly fast, calories in now outpace a body that's learned to run lean. If muscle mass also dropped during the initial loss, the rebound tends to be sharper.

Kang has been documenting the new attempt on his own YouTube channel, Boar Runner, where he set the 77kg goal and began training. Whether the more measured approach sticks is the open question, but at least this time he seems to know what broke the last one.
