Girls' Generation's Hyoyeon Got Hacked So Many Times She Offered to Share Her Account

Girls' Generation's Hyoyeon is being serially hacked, and her solution is, frankly, inspired. Appearing on the popular YouTube channel Chimchakman on the 16th, she dropped the news almost as an aside: someone keeps breaking into her email and Instagram, and several of those attempts have succeeded.

"There's this person who keeps hacking my email and Instagram," she told the host. "Some of them worked. They actually got in."

So she's been changing her passwords. Over and over. And at some point this week, something shifted in her thinking. "I thought, as long as they don't delete my account, maybe I'll just let them co-run it," she said. "They want to see me that badly, so I'll just leave it."

Her co-host, the show's host Chimchakman, took that logic one step further and suggested she post a message directly in her account inviting the hacker to leave their contact details so she could send them official content requests. Collaborative hacking, essentially.

Hyoyeon did draw one line. "It's a feeling of love toward me," she said, "but when it gets too much, it becomes uncomfortable."

The resigned humor is very on-brand, but the situation itself is not funny in the slightest. Repeated successful account breaches are a serious security problem, and idols with large followings are frequent targets for exactly this kind of persistent intrusion. Whether Hyoyeon is working with her agency SM Entertainment to address it more formally, she didn't say. The hacker, presumably, is watching.
