RESCENE Wonyi's Middle School Teacher Made a Whole Account to Destroy the Bullying Rumor

The accuser is gone. The teacher is gone. And RESCENE's Wonyi is still posting about old chubby-era photos with her fans.

The sequence moved fast. On the 1st, an anonymous user posted on social media claiming to have knowledge of Wonyi's middle school behavior, alleging she had been a bully (called a iljin in Korean school slang, referring to a student who intimidates or dominates peers). No evidence was attached. The post spread quickly through online communities, timed to one of the worst possible moments for a rising act: Wonyi had recently charted at No. 1 on music shows with the RESCENE remake single Pretty Girl, and the group's 2024 debut mini-album track LOVE ATTACK had already pulled off a chart resurrection weeks prior.

Then her former teacher showed up.

A person identifying as Wonyi's homeroom teacher for her second and third years of middle school created a new SNS account and started publishing. The post included Wonyi's handwritten letters to the teacher, group photos with classmates, her yearbook pages, and support messages from other teachers who had also worked with Wonyi at the time. The teacher's profile bio stated it plainly: "I was Wonyi's homeroom teacher in grades 2 and 3 of middle school. If Wonyi did something wrong during that time, it's my fault for teaching her poorly. Please stop the baseless attacks."

The portrait that emerged was specific. Wonyi served as a student council officer at her school, participated in a school-wide anti-bullying campaign in front of the entire student body, and was remembered by her teacher as a student who regularly told teachers she loved them and gave them candy. The teacher also recalled that on the day before graduation, Wonyi and her friends visited a cake workshop and made handmade cakes as gifts.

The bullying allegation had included a claim that Wonyi and the accuser had both been members of the same school dance club. The teacher addressed that directly, writing that they have remained in contact with 11 of the 12 members of the dance club (called Seongbaem) born in 2004, including Wonyi. "That's why when that post went up from someone calling themselves a Seongbaem member, all of us, including the kids, were very confused," the teacher wrote.

After the teacher's account went live, the original accuser deleted both the post and their account. No statement has been issued by RESCENE's label.

Wonyi's own response to the situation was notably light. On a fan communication platform around the same time, she told fans: "Even if you see photos of me from back when I was eating well and a bit chubby, don't leave the fandom. Don't look at the dancing." She then asked fans to share their own old photos in return. It landed as a small, confident deflection, though she never addressed the allegations directly.

On the 2nd, the teacher posted a final message before closing the account. The post quoted a passage from the Analects of Confucius: "When three people walk together, one of them is surely my teacher", which the teacher used to make a broader point about looking for someone's strengths before their flaws. The full message touched on the state of online discourse, the difficulty of real communication in an era of one-directional broadcasting, and a personal note about the teacher's own imperfections in the classroom.

"I can't confidently answer yes when I ask myself whether I'm a good teacher," the post read in part. "But rather than blaming myself for being imperfect, I try to support a better version of myself for tomorrow."

The teacher closed with a direct message to anyone still watching: keep Wonyi in a good light, and try to see people's good sides first.

The original account is now deleted. The teacher's account is now deleted. What remains is a fairly clean paper trail: letters, photos, a yearbook, and an accuser who left without explaining anything.
