IU Returns With a Double Title Single and a Glimpse of Album 6
IU is releasing a new digital single called I Byeol-ro-buteo (From This Star) on September 10, her first new music since the digital single Bye, Summer came out in September 2025. The two-track release serves as a pre-release preview of her upcoming sixth full-length album, and IU wrote both songs herself.

IU is making her return exactly one year after her last release, dropping a new digital single on the 10th that also fires the opening shot for her sixth studio album. Her agency EDAM Entertainment confirmed the news, and at midnight on the 8th they shared a set of concept photos that gave fans the first real look at the new era.
The single is titled I Byeol-ro-buteo, which translates roughly as "From This Star," and it packs two title tracks: the title track itself and a second song called Dear My Crazy Soulmate. Both qualify as co-lead singles, and both will eventually appear on the full sixth album when it arrives. IU wrote the lyrics to both tracks herself, which has been a consistent part of her creative identity across her career.

A space-age concept arrives
The concept photos are doing a lot of heavy lifting in terms of setting a mood. They show IU inside a spacecraft, dressed in a spacesuit, with the vast curve of Earth visible in the background. The visual language, wide open space, a lone figure looking outward, signals something reflective and expansive, a fitting atmosphere for an artist who tends to front-load emotional weight in her lead singles.
This will be IU's first new music since Bye, Summer, a digital single she released in September 2025. A year between releases is not unusual for her, but with a full album now confirmed to be in progress, the single feels less like a standalone drop and more like the beginning of something larger. The two pre-release tracks are designed to let listeners settle into the album's world ahead of the full announcement.
No release date for the sixth album has been announced yet. The single arrives on the 10th at 6 p.m. KST.
